Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant Dual Trading Card Sets a World Record at Auction
The one-of-one card realized a stunning $12.9 million, toppling the previous record set by a Micky Mantle card.
A new record has been made for the most expensive sports card ever sold at auction: a whopping $12.9 million.

What card could have sold for such a sum—near the same amount that a Basquiat sold for in Hong Kong last year, or a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci sketch sold for in 2021? It was the sole, one-of-one copy of a Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant “Logoman Card,” which features the NBA uniform logos and confirmed signatures of the two legendary basketball players from the rare 2007 to 2008 “Upper Deck Exquisite Collection.” It was sold to one lucky bidder out of 82 at Heritage’s Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction this weekend.
Chris Ivy, Heritage’s Director of Sports Auctions said that the sale was reflective of two things: “First, this is the finest modern basketball card in the world, and second, Heritage Auctions provides our clients with the best platform to generate world record results for your rare collectibles.”
Previously, the record for a collectible sports card was $12.6 million, which was also achieved at Heritage Auctions for a 1952 baseball card for the renowned New York Yankee Mickey Mantle, who died in 1995. That card sold in 2022, but this year’s auction sold two more expensive pieces of Mantle’s ephemera, including a signed jersey worn in 1960, which fetched $5.2 million, and another trading card, which realized $1.3 million.
Much of a trading card’s value comes down to one thing: the authenticity of a signature. In the collectible world, forged or unverified autographs are everywhere, and it creates a massive gap between what’s valuable and what’s worthless.
That’s why this card is special—it’s not just signed, it’s verified. Even more, it’s a rarity: these two players never suited up on the same team, yet their names and careers are forever linked in baseball history.
So next time you’re at “mom’s house,” dig through that old bedroom drawer or shoebox of cards. You might just uncover something that’s worth a lot more than nostalgia.
